I'm glad to announce that my tango-composition 'Los 4 Vampiros' will get it's tv-debut in the telenovelle 'LouisLouise'. If you would've missed it you can watch it again on Sunday the 15th in 'The week of LouisLouise'. The tango can be heard on my site in the section free work 2007.
More information can be found at: the official site.

Theme Filmmusicsite.com

After talking things through with Arvid Fossen – the chief editor of the filmmusic-site - it was clear that it would be great idea to have a grand new theme for the website. It had to be a recognizable theme that also could be utilized in different topics brought by the filmmusicsite-redaction. The theme can be heard at: www.filmmusicsite.com.

Scrooge

At this moment I'm working on a new musical score that tells the well known Christmas-tale of 'Scrooge'. It's an all new production presented by the Theatercompany in Lokeren: 'Lust naar Kunst', and is directed by Fabio Van Hoorebeke. It will be a cheerful Victorian show with live music, amusing puppets and truly white snow! Based upon 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens.

The music for this cheerful show will be performed on piano and clarinet. To bring a sparkle of Christmas magic a children's choir is added to the intimate setting. They will perform some well known 'carols' as well as newly composed music for this show! A demo can be heard at www.myspace.com/jorishermy.

The Wizard of OZ 5+

1 actor, 9 instruments and 47 parts told in 65 minutes!

After the success of ‘Minoes last year, I was asked to write the music for a new adaptation of the classic story ‘The Wizard of Oz’ by actor, writer and director Fabio Van Hoorebeke more . Musically we’ve chosen to tell the story in a rather classical way by giving every character it’s own recognisable melody represented by a specific instrument. The Main Theme can be heard at: www.myspace.com/jorishermy

Lyrics & Play: Fabio Van Hoorebeke adapting L. Frank Baum’s classical ‘Wizard of Oz’
Music: Joris Hermy

Musical: Jungle Book

Last July I started on writing original music for my first musical: an adaptation of the classic story ‘Jungle Book’. It will be a mix of traditional theatre and musical, with an Indian touch, the way writer Rudyard Kipling intended it. It will open on April the 18th, performed by The Royal Youththeatre Company ‘Hand in Hand’ and direced by Fabio Van Hoorebeke. Here you can hear a teaser demo for this upcoming project: www.myspace.com/jorishermy

Bibkwintet

I just finished a rather interesting project that combines poetry and music in a creative crossover project. The Bibkwintet organised a writers-competition and asked me to write music to the 10 winning poems. This results in a variety of 10 songs each with it’s own story and atmosphere. Musically I tried to bring in a diversity of styles such as Waltz, Tango or even a Piano Ballad. The songs will be performed live on the 5th of March 2008, 19u30 at the CC Aartselaar.

Eurosong 2008 (part 2)

Eurosong 2008 brought an additional challenge. Besides writing an own song, I was asked to arrange a song written by Pedro De Bruyckere and performed by Luke Albert Jr. Although the song didn’t get selected, you can listen to it in the section ‘Music / arrangements. Have fun!

Eurosong 2008

It was a last minute call and quiet unexpected but why not do something crazy and sign in for Eurosong 2008? Thomas Van Der Spiegel came up with the idea and suggested that Pharahilde – better known as Veerle Geeroms – would be his artist of choice to perform a newly written song. He asked me to do it so I wrote a new song together with lyricist Fabio Van Hoorebeke and it’s called ‘Prima Donna of Your Heart’. It’s an aria in a modern yet Classical arrangement. Unfortunately we didn’t get selected but there’s little reason to be unhappy because the song found it’s way on the internet and you can listen to it online! Being very short notice I could not have done this on my own, so a very special thanks to: Thomas, Fabio, Bart, Stephen, Philippe, Peter and of course my special Prima Donna - Veerle!!!

‘Yeroushalaim Chel Zahav’

Director Bob Jennes asked me to collaborate on his latest project ‘The Investigation’. Bob asked me if I could arrange the classic hymn ‘Yeroushalaim Chel Zahav’. These arrangements were needed to evoce the right feeling in the crucial scenes. Additional to this I arranged ‘Traümerei’ by Robert Schumann for a musicbox. The arrangement of the hymn can be heared on www.myspace.com/jorishermy

The one and only Minoes soundtrack is now available!

I’m pleased to announce that the play ‘Minoes’ - for witch I composed the original music - received positive responses from press and public. But the highlight for me as a composer being that some people whistled the music afterwards. In the meanwhile we’ve been working hard to release a commercial album of the story and it’s music. De CD ( ref. JOJO009 ) has been released shortly and contains the story – narrated by Fabio Van Hoorebeke and Mira Delbaen - and concludes with ‘The Great Minoes Song’!

You can listen to 'Minoes - The Love Theme' from this CD when visiting: www.myspace.com/jorishermy

You can order the CD online, just mail cd@minoes.be

New music for shortfilm 'Zeebra'

I've just finished scoring a charming shortfilm directed by a promising young director Katrien Vanderlinden. Her latest project is called 'Zeebra' and is starring the gifted actors Sien Eggers ( In de Gloria ) and Steph Bayens ( Kaat & Co ). The Opening Titles are featured in the Music-section 'Shortfilm'.

New work for Euphonium

By request I’ve written a few compositions for Dries Dewaele entitled: Movement I – Danaide / Movement II – Abantis / Movement III – Agitato. Danaïde and Abantis have been recorded and you can check Danaïde out in the Music-section on this website. Agitato is still in the works.

Minoes visits Ghent!

Currently I’m working on the music for an adaptation from Annie M. G. Schmidt’s story ‘ Minoes’ adapted and directed by Fabio Van Hoorebeke. You can experience this play at the upcoming festivities in Ghent during the summer of 2007. (info & tickets: www.minoes.be)

Concertwork

I’m proud to anounce that my first Brassquartet compositions ( Fugue – Tango – Hymn ) have been completed. Rehearsals with the musicians are scheduled shortly, and I hope to present a recording of the work very soon.
